about
"Sermonette" is a gospel jazz composition, written by Nat Adderley, Jon Hendricks, and extra lyrics by Cathy Segal-Garcia.
“I released this now, because I think we really need the emotional message of this NOW! It’s a joyous song, filled with hope and a connection to God. I also got extra creative and made a movie to accompany the music track.”
This cut is from Cathy's CD released in 2019, "Straight Ahead To The U.K.".
The recording band started in the U.K. in 2011, and was originally produced by Andy MacIntosh (alto sax). On this track, the band included Paul Morgan on bass, Ian Thomas on drums, and Simon Gardner on trumpet. The recording was finished in L.A. in 2019 with Carey Frank on B3, Osamu McGregor on acoustic piano, Brad Dutz on percussion, Bili Redd and Irene Cathaway on background vocals. In L.A. it was arranged, recorded and produced by Cathy and John Leftwich. (executive producer Dan Davilla)

lyrics
LYRICS:
(Jon Hendricks)
"I heard me a Sermonette! Have you heard it yet?
With that soulful message that you won’t soon forget!
It tells about real true love…People lost sight of…..
With their sinful livin…. And scornin Heaven above!
It tells you to love one another
That each man is your brother…
Live right, cause you know that you reap what you sow!
And so, to have no regret…. And to find what you’re missin,
Bow your head and listen to that Sermonette!
(Cathy Segal-Garcia)
I want to tell all you people
That the love that you feel for each other...
It has a goal, and a purpose ...
That has the power to heal the world!
And if you go ahead and act on your power,
And spread the love on your brothers and your sisters,
You’re gonna feel that love all around you
And live in peace and happiness!
This is the way that we can
All change the world for the better..
Just by living happy,
And making each action count for ourselves!
Believe it or not, it’s the way into holy,
And you’re gonna feel all of its power
When you heed my humble ramblins
Regarding this sermonette! "
